# Neotask CLI command reference

Generated from the same command registry as the standalone CLI. Availability still depends on the deployment, account, scopes, plan and runner state. A listed command does not grant permission.

Use `--json` for a machine-readable result. Mutation JSON and sensitive authentication input are read from stdin, never from command-line secret flags. Keep one idempotency key for retries of the exact same request; use a new key when the request changes.

## First run

`npm install -g @neotask/cli` is instant by design: the package has no install scripts. The first `neotask` command then downloads the complete signed CLI (about 160 to 210 MB per platform), verifies its signatures and every file digest, and unpacks it before running the command. It reports progress on stderr and ends with `Installed in Ns.`; stdout carries only the command's output. The install takes about 15 seconds on Apple Silicon (about 45 seconds on a small Linux x64 server) plus the download. Wait for it to finish: do not kill it or start a second `neotask` while it runs. `NEOTASK_QUIET=1` hides the progress lines.

## Shell and local MCP entry points

- `neotask --version` (alias `-V`): release identity; no login required.
- `neotask --help` or a command's `--help`: available syntax.
- `neotask tui [--accessible] [--ascii] [--no-motion] [--inline|--fullscreen]`: interactive command menu. This is not an automatic chat session.
- `neotask mcp serve [--profile <profile>]`: local stdio bridge to remote MCP.
- `neotask mcp install --client <claude|codex> [--profile <profile>] [--confirm] [--json]`: preview or confirm a marker-owned client configuration entry.
